UK: Network Rail has awarded Carillion a £40m contract to electrify at 25 kV 50 Hz 'over 50 km of railway' between Cumbernauld and Glasgow, lengthen platforms at Cumbernauld and install turn-back facilities at Springburn.

The contract announced on January 30 forms part of a £80m upgrade of the Cumbernauld route and will enable electric services to reverse at Springburn to access the low-level station at Glasgow Queen Street.

Electrification is scheduled to be completed by June 2014, ahead of Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games.
