POLAND: Infrastructure manager PKP PLK has awarded Kapsch CarrierCom a €9·2m contract to design and install GSM-R equipment for the roll-out of ERTMS on the 148 km Legnica - Wrocław - Opole section of corridor E30. Bombardier Transportation was previously awarded an €8m contract to supply Interflo 450 ETCS Level 2 for the route.

The GSM-R contract announced on April 29 covers the expansion of existing base station controller and transcoder unit infrastructure, and the installation of 32 BTS 9000 base stations at 16 locations. Kapsch is to undertake the installation work in co-operation with local partner Torpol.

The project is scheduled for completion in 24 months, with a five-year warranty period when Kapsch will provide technical support.
