LUXEMBOURG: The government approved plans for the construction of a new line between the capital and Bettembourg on February 26, authorising the route and compensation measures for those affected by the project.

The €292m scheme involves the construction of a 7 km double-track electrified alignment, which would leave the existing line at Howald and then run parallel to the A3 motorway, rejoining the existing route near Bettembourg.

The new line would be suitable for passenger trains operating at up to 160 km/h, and would increase capacity between the capital and the French border. There would be no intermediate stations.
