ARGENTINA: Shipments to Buenos Aires are now underway of 24 Series 5000 cars which formerly operated on lines 6 and 9 of the Madrid Metro. The Buenos Aires city government has acquired the four trainsets for €4·2m, in order to meet the expected increase in demand when the extension of Line B to Echeverría and Juan Manuel de Rosas opens later this year.

Madrid Metro is overhauling the cars prior to shipment, and once they have arrived in Buenos Aires will provide technical assistance for a modification programme including regauging from 1 445 mm to 1 435 mm and the replacement of overhead current collection with third rail. As well as spares, maintenance support is to be provided during the first year of operation.
