SPAIN: Plans to extend the Palma metro 1·4 km from Universitat de les Illes Balears west to the Parc Bit science and technology area have been approved by the regional government.
An invitation to tender is expected to be issued soon. The project is budgeted at €25·5m including EU Recovery & Resilience co-funding, and construction is expected to take 15 months.
At present some 85% of journeys to and from Parc Bit are made by private vehicle, and it is expected a significant number would switch to metro. The journey time from Parc Bit to UIB will be 2 min, and Palma city centre will be 15 min away.
