GUESTS at the Grand Hotel Tschuggen in the Swiss town of Arosa will shortly be able to travel on the first production version of Mountain Coaster, an automated peoplemover supplied by Austrian firm Coaster AG.Coaster has operated a 300?m test track since 2002, demonstrating that the central rack rail allows the car to climb gradient of up to 55% and reach speeds of 54 km/h, while the modular metre-gauge track minimises ground disturbance and permits curve radii down to 6?m. The Arosa line is 500?m long and climbs 150?m. Coaster is also offering urban, short distance and cargo versions of the system. n
