A COACH on Virgin West Coast’s Manchester - London route has been fitted out by Cellnet as a trial ’Communications Carriage’. It provides First Class ticket holders with access to a wide range of information technology services.

The objective is to make it easier for passengers to work during the journey. Faxes and e-mails can be sent and received, and mobile telephones recharged. A signal booster on the train will enhance telephone network coverage. Power points will allow laptop computers and other portable electronic equipment to be run without draining internal batteries.

Passengers will also be able to use Cellnet’s Genie informations service, which provides personalised news and other information direct to a Cellnet mobile phone, or via e-mail from the Genie website. o
