AUSTRIAN Federal Railways has returned to traffic the first four of 45 dining cars which are being refurbished at a cost of €100000 per vehicle by ÖBB Technische Services GmbH in Simmering.

Refurbishment was required because ’the majority of our dining cars no longer corresponded with the wishes of our customers or our own design concepts’, said Stefan Wehinger, Director of ÖBB Passenger Transport.

The refurbished cars are intended to provide a restaurant atmosphere, with wood and aluminium interior fittings and specially commissioned leather chairs. A buffet counter will be provided in 10 of the cars, dividing smoking from non-smoking areas.

The menus are available on the internet, and passengers can reserve seats on-line before travelling.
