ON MARCH 3 the Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority in Los Angeles approved a $420m design and build contract with a joint venture of FCI, Fluor and Parsons for the 13·7 km first phase of the Exposition light rail line.

The deal followed the issuing of a Record of Decision by the FTA clearing the way for work on the $640m project. Construction is expected to start this summer.

The route will share the existing Blue Line tracks from the 7th Street terminus in the city centre to Washington Boulevard, and then head west along Exposition Boulevard to Culver City, serving eight new stations. In the longer term, a second phase would continue the line to Santa Monica.
