AS IT LOOKS to enter the Spanish freight market (RG 8.05 p466), Comsa Rail Transport has acquired two 1500 kW G1700BB diesel-hydraulic locomotives from Vossloh, together with two sets of bogies for each loco to permit operation on 1668mm or 1435mm gauge. The locos have obtained acceptance to operate on the Spanish network and approval to operate in Portugal is expected shortly.

Comsa has also taken delivery of two 2918 kW Co-Co diesel-electric locos, similar to the Class 333 operated by Renfe. The former Danish State Railways Class MZ locos were rebuilt at Örebro in Sweden and fitted with 1668mm gauge bogies by Vossloh Locomotives at Albuixech outside Valencia.

Albuixech is also producing two diesel-electric locomotives for Continental Rail, similar to the mixed-traffic Class 333-300 rebuild for Renfe.

To haul Talgo services on non-electrified routes, a fleet of 28 Class 334 locos is being built by Vossloh for Renfe using components from Class 319-300 and 333 units. n
