HOLLAND America Line has taken delivery of four double-deck coaches from Colorado Railcar. They were expected to enter service on McKinley Explorer land cruise operations on May 16, attached to regular Alaska Railroad passenger train services.

The vehicles are 27·1m long and 5·5m high, and will operate in two pairs. Cars1050 and 1052 include a kitchen and dining facilities, able to serve all the passengers in two sittings. Cars1051 and 1053 have an open-air viewing platform in place of the kitchen. A lift provides access to the upper deck for wheelchair users, and six channels of at-seat music are available, as well as a GPS-triggered tour commentary.

’The cars seat up to 88 guests and feature more glass than any other passenger car’, said David Giersdorf of Holland America Line. He explained that the glass dome roof provides tourists with ’uninterrupted views of some of the most spectacular wilderness vistas on earth’.
