MOROCCAN National Railways awarded a contract worth 53m euros to Alstom Transport on March 8 for resignalling work over the next four years.

The contract covers 550 km from Kenitra to Oujda, which is electrified as far as Fes, and 200 km of the southern line from Sidi El Aidi to Marrakech. Oncfm is currently reconstructing the Kenitra - Meknès section (RBR 98 p50) with double track on a straightened alignment. As well as the new signalling and safety equipment, Alstom will be involved in the modernisation of 55 stations, including Casablanca. A new electronic signal box will be built here to control large sections of the Oncfm network through a high-capacity digital transmission system.
