ON AUGUST 2-3 Southern Africa Railway Association held a workshop on track maintenance awareness, motivation and leadership in Lubumbashi. SARA reports immense enthusiasm among the delegates from Congolese National Railways, who were clearly inspired by a thirst for knowledge.

Many of the Congolese delegates travelled considerable distances to attend the event. We were particularly impressed by Mr Ngoba Kapembe, whose journey from Ilebo in northern Congo to Lubumbashi took six days. Our SARA reporter notes that he travelled 900 km by rail and 600 km by tractor, picking up three colleagues on the way. That’s motivation for you.
