NEDTRAIN officially opened its upgraded running gear refurbishment plant in Haarlem on September 5. Life-expired machinery has been replaced to ensure reliability and improve productivity at the works, which processes around 4000 wheelsets every year.

The decision to upgrade the wheelset and bogie plant was taken in 2001, and all machines have now been replaced. According to Plant Manager Martien Janse, the facility is now ’one of the most modern in Europe. Thanks to a capacity expansion of no less than 40%, we are prepared for the future. In the past 16 wheelsets could be retyred in a single shift; the total has now risen to approximately 25.’
