Salzburger Lokalbahn runs a 37 route-km network primarily linking Salzburg with Lamprechtshausen.

AUSTRIA: Salzburg city council has approved the long-planned extension of the Salzburger Lokalbahn from its underground terminus alongside the main railway station to Mirabellplatz in the city centre.

Planning is expected to start in 2021, with a view to starting construction in 2023. Design work is expected to cost €20m, while the cost of building the 900 m extension was estimated at €150m in 2014.

‘The long awaited extension of the regional light railway is finally on track’, said Mayor Harald Preuner, adding that the federal government was expected to cover at least 50% of the cost of the project.

A further extension of the electrified SLB south from Mirabellplatz is envisaged in the longer term.
