Solar-Canopy-Anacostia4-19

USA: A joint venture of SunPower and Goldman Sachs Renewable Power has begun installing photovoltaic solar panels over the car parks at the Washington DC metro’s Anacostia, Southern Avenue, Cheverly and Naylor Road stations.

The first site at Anacostia is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the power used by 165 homes annually.

The project is being undertaken at no cost to operator WMATA, which said it would gain a revenue stream over 25 years as well as improved parking amenities with protection from extreme weather, more efficient LED lighting, new CCTV cameras and emergency call boxes.
