DENMARK: A digital twin platform for pantograph condition monitoring has been launched by PantoInspect.

PantoSystem combines ultra-high speed 3D laser scanners with an AI cloud and big data tools to automatically identify each type of pantograph and provide accurate measurements.

This is expected to be beneficial for infrastructure managers who need to deal with numerous types of rolling stock, as the use of AI makes it much faster to train the system to recognise varying train types and pantograph.

Large amounts of data can be processed at speed, with the deep learning techniques enabling PantoSystem to monitor equipment failure trends and patterns. This will provide train operators with insights into the condition of their rolling stock, and infrastructure managers with a tool for early detection of systematic damage caused by infrastructure defects. PantoSystem is suitable for both heavy and light rail applications.

‘Combining AI with high speed 3D laser triangulation opens up a whole new level of measurement confidence. This will change how the industry can benefit from automatic measurement systems’, said PantoInspect CEO Malte Breiting.
