UK: The Welsh government is to work with private investors to develop a Cardiff Parkway park-and-ride station at St Mellons, close to the M4 and around 8 min by rail from Cardiff or Newport.

The government will become a shareholder and investor in the South Wales Infrastructure Ltd joint venture with financial services company Investec and local businessmen Nigel and Andrew Roberts, with the government and Investec providing equal funding for the next phase of development.

A planning application is to be submitted this summer, with construction expected to begin in 2020.

The company and investors are being advised by Arup, Blake Morgan, Burges Salmon, DLA Piper, Gleeds, HGH Consulting, Knight Frank, KPMG, SLC Rail and Wilkinson Eyre Architects.

‘As well as the obvious day to day benefits for commuters, this will also help to manage congestion and reduce air and noise pollution in central Cardiff whilst dramatically improving access by public transport for those in St Mellons area’, said Economy & Transport Minister, Ken Skates on January 23.
