Wabtec is to supply brakes, air conditioning and ventilation systems, passenger information systems and current collectors worth more than US$70m for the 94 trainsets which Siemens Mobility is to build for London Underground’s Piccadilly Line. The current collectors will use moulded resin components to reduce weight by more than 15%.


Teltronic is to supply its NEBULA Tetra radio network infrastructure for Sydney’s Parramatta light rail line, which is scheduled to open by 2023. It will also equip the vehicles with on-board radios from its RTP series.

Maryland Transit Administration has appointed RailWorks‘ Track Services group to undertake track renewals on the Central Light Rail Line and Penn Station Extension at several locations around central Baltimore.

Shenzhen Metro has awarded Asiaray Media Group a nine-year exclusive contract to manage advertising sites on lines 2 (Phase 3), 6, 8 (Phase 1) and 10, and renewed its contract covering Line 3. ‘We will take advantage of big data to distribute scenario-matching advertising contents’, said Vincent Lam, Founder, Chairman & Executive Director of Asiaray. ‘This will greatly reduce wastage and enhance advertising efficiency, and at the same time simplify placement procedures.’

Docklands Light Railway.

WeMaintain has signed a four-year contract to supply operating concessionaire KeolisAmey Docklands with Internet of Things predictive maintenance technology for lifts and escalators on London’s Docklands Light Railway. ‘Once our IoT sensors are installed on all of the DLR’s 86 lifts and 30 escalators, we will be able to provide KAD with early warnings of possible equipment failure, allowing us to react and resolve an issue with speed and efficiency that wasn’t previously possible’, said WeMaintain’s UK Managing Director Tom Harmsworth.

Moscow Metro is to modernise its wi-fi network this year, installing 100 additional base stations, increasing bandwidth and testing the latest Wi-Fi 6. Moscow metro passengers downloaded more than 24 petabytes of data in 2020, with 50% of users having Android devices, 49% iOS and 1% Windows Phone OS. The average speed mounted to 45 Mbps.

Chicago’s Metra has named Kevin McCann as its next Chief Operating Officer with effect from July 1, when current COO Bruce Marcheschi retires. McCann is currently head of the agency’s Mechanical Department, having risen through the ranks.
