Bombardier Transportation has officially opened a €1m signalling and train control development and testing laboratory in Mannheim.

GERMANY: Bombardier Transportation officially opened a €1m signalling and train control development and testing laboratory in Mannheim on August 23. The 1 140 m2 facility has approximately 40 staff.

‘The laboratory for vehicle control and signalling technology that we are officially inaugurating here today in Mannheim offers all possibilities to make the rail transport of the future safer and more efficient’, said Baden-Württemberg Transport Minister Winfried Hermann at the opening event.

‘In Germany we are at the precipice of a dramatic technological revolution, including in railways’, he added. ‘Digitisation of railways will allow us to respond adequately to the automation of road transport and to secure competitiveness within Europe.’
