NETHERLANDS: Infrastructure manager ProRail is installing a linside Automatic Pantograph Monitoring System developed by Sensys and Lloyd’s Register.

APMS does not require a physical attachment to the catenary; instead it uses radar and laser sensors to assess the speed and location of a pantograph as it passes along the contact wire. High-definition cameras record images to allow a detailed examination of the condition of the carbon strip.

APMS will be included as a module with Lloyd’s Register’s Gotcha software suite which is already used by ProRail for a range of condition monitoring functions.
