Dutch overnight train start-up European Sleeper is aiming to raise €500 000 of initial capital through the sale of shares on the Eyevestor platform from the end of May. European Sleeper was founded in February by Elmer van Buuren, Chair of the Train2EU group of Dutch rail and travel professionals, and Chris Engelsman, who runs the Noord West Express website to promote rail travel. It aims to bring together user groups, activists, politicians and small and medium sized enterprises, and in April it announced plans to launch a Praha – Dresden – Berlin – Amsterdam – Brussels night train service in April 2022, working in partnership with RegioJet.
Railinc has adopted TransmetriQ as the brand for its freight management resources, including its RailSight suite, CarLogix and advanced analytics systems. ‘Our customers, partners, employees and other stakeholders have been telling us that it is not always apparent that Railinc has products and services that are designed for them, or can be customised for them outside of industry-driven committees and priorities’, said Railinc President & CEO Allen West on May 11. ‘Ultimately, we determined that we needed a name that can be associated with all the beneficial solutions and insights the TransmetriQ team has developed, apart from the more traditional rail industry solutions we also provide.’
Railway internet of things company Stimio is to use Finnish company Wirepas’s scalable technology for connecting sensors using battery-operated low power networks, offering years of battery lifetime. ‘Their mesh network allows us to answer the increasing demand for supporting more and more agile, efficient and power friendly architectures. Combined with embedded machine learning algorithms, it creates another major breakthrough for the railway industry both in terms of autonomy and scalability’, said Stimio CEO David Dorval.
Knorr-Bremse has launched a climate strategy which aims to halve its CO2 emissions by 2030 through energy efficiency measures, by generating its own power, and through the purchase of renewable energy. In addition it has pledged to make its sites carbon neutral from 2021 onwards by maximising its sourcing of energy from renewables, with unavoidable emissions offset by climate protection certificates through a cooperation agreement with climate protection body Atmosfair.

Rail components and services supplier A Stucki has appointed David Oestermeyer as Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing all sales, customer service, marketing and commercial activities. He will remain President of Salco Products, the rail supply business he established in 1983 and sold to Stucki in early 2020. ‘This is a very exciting time for Stucki, as we’re just beginning to leverage the scale and synergy we can offer our customers in the rail industry and beyond’, he said. ‘We’re looking forward to capitalising on more opportunities to engage the marketplace as a credentialed and reliable provider of a broad range of proven components, systems and services.’
