Systra has reached an agreement to acquire Italian engineering company SWS which specialises in the design of tunnels and underground structures. Systra said this would expand its expertise in a speciality field, its presence in Italy and its global market footprint in tunnel design and construction.

PowerRail Inc has formed PowerRail Engine Systems, which offers new and remanufactured engines and components supporting EMD and GE engines. ‘We started as a distributor, but have evolved into manufacturing and remanufacturing, as well’, explained CEO & Chairman Paul Foster. ‘PowerRail Engine Systems is a huge step for us. This engine line is very complex and required an additional set of checks and balances in quality, service and most importantly, performance.’

Alstom has appointed Jérôme Wallut as Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing its global commercial activities including commercial strategy, business development and public affairs. He was previously President of Alstom Americas.

Siemens Mobility has completed its acquisition of Dutch rail inventory management, reservation and ticketing software provider Sqills, which will be managed as separate wholly owned subsidiary. ‘With Sqills, we can provide operators with a comprehensive SaaS offering that optimises their key travel processes, including trip searching, inventory, reservation and ticketing management’, said Karl Blaim, Managing Director & CFO of Siemens Mobility. This will help operators to ‘increase capacity utilisation of trains through clever pricing’, support their planning and help reduce costs.

RJ Corman Railroad Group has appointed Justin Broyles as Executive Vice-President, Commercial Affairs, with responsibility for all Class I corporate relations as well as leading the short lines and Storm Team.

Bentley Systems subsidiary The Cohesive Companies has completed the acquisition of Oxplus, a specialist in rail and metro asset management, condition monitoring and data-driven analytics based in the Netherlands. Among Oxplus’s recent projects has been a contract to support Siemens Mobility in the maintenance of rolling stock for the Riyadh metro.

Telecoms infrastructure company BAI Communications has completed the acquisition of Mobilitie, which provides wireless communications to the public transport networks in Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area. Mobilitie becomes separate entity within the BAI Group, alongside BAI’s majority-owned Transit Wireless.

On September 30 Russian Railways closed the order book for an additional issue of perpetual green bonds in the international capital market in the amount of SFr200m, taking the total volume of Eurobonds of this series to SFr450m. The issue was prepared in accordance with the Green Bond Principles of the International Capital Markets Association. Both tranches were also certified under the Climate Bond Standard and Climate Bonds Initiative.
