GEORGIA: Stadler has signed a memorandum of understanding for the formation of a rolling stock manufacturing joint venture in Tbilisi.

The Swiss company plans to work with a local partner which is currently responsible for maintenance of the Tbilisi metro and is financing and building a workshop for the maintenance of metro rolling stock and sleeping cars.

Subject to the successful completion of negotiations, the joint venture would lease this plant and use it to undertake the final assembly and commissioning of vehicles for both Georgian Railway and the metro.

Further production could be undertaken in the future, potentially including the supply of rolling stock to neighbouring countries.
