EUROPE: Following extensive testing in Germany, Winterhalter has launched an under-counter dishwasher for dining car kitchens. The Rail 50 is designed to be leak proof despite the constant vibrations on trains. It can handle voltage fluctuation, and in an emergency can be emptied without power at sub-zero temperatures.

Winterhalter says ease of operation has been a particular focus of the design, as catering operations can have a high turnover of staff. A simple button starts the wash cycle and then changes colour to show the wash status, and there are indicators when detergent or rinse aid runs out. Two rotating wash arms at the top and bottom of the tank direct water jets throughout the load to shift stubborn dirt, while removable strainers and rack guides allow simple and hygienic cleaning of the machine.
