UK: Carillion has opened an electrification training centre at Crewe which includes a purpose-built overhead line span and associated components.

Carillion is part of Network Rail’s electrification 'framework panel' and is undertaking enabling works on the Edinburgh - Glasgow Improvement Project in Scotland; it also has a partnership agreement with Austrian power supply specialist SPL Powerlines. The training centre is part of its efforts to increase its skills base in the UK, and it will provide both practical and theoretical training to Carillion staff and those of other infrastructure contractors.

Carillion says that it is likely to erect indoor spans at its training centres elsewhere in the UK to meet demand for electrification specialists as NR’s rolling programme continues into the 2014-19 Control Period 5.
