BRAZIL: Freight operator RUMO ALL has awarded Knorr-Bremse a contract to modernise the braking equipment on 8 500 sugar cane wagons, and take exclusive responsibility for maintaining the brakes over the next 15 years.
The agreement announced on March 17 covers DB60-II control valves, slack adjusters and other components complying with AAR standards.
The DB-10C valve with its new brake cylinder maintaining function will offer improved safety, according to Knorr-Bremse. ‘This feature makes it possible to replenish the cylinder pressure continuously while braking is still taking place and compensate for any leakage, which can be critical during prolonged braking on gradients,’ explained Edson Pissolato, head of RailServices at Knorr-Bremse Brazil. The local company is handling the order in conjunction with the group’s US subsidiary New York Air Brake.
