ROMANIA: CFR Marfă launched a rolling motorway service on July 26, having received financial support for the project from the national environment fund.

The service is aimed at transit traffic, running from Dorneşti near the border with Ukraine to Giurgiu on the border with Bulgaria and Ruse across the River Danube in Bulgaria.

The regular service will comprise around 20 lorry-carrying wagons with couchette cars for the drivers. The trains take around 18 h to cover the 550 km route.

CFR Marfă General Manager Marinică Voicu said the government subsidy would ensure the provision of a stable service to enable the development of business relationships with customers, which would contribute to environmental protection and reducing road congestion.
