CANADA: The Government of Canada is to provide C$167m to support three projects to improve the capacity of railways serving the Port of Vancouver.

Two projects are led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority with investment from CN and CP. They include improving the ventilation of the Thornton Tunnel to support more frequent trains, building 5·5 km of track adjacent to an existing double-tracked corridor, grade separation projects and providing 9·4 km of new sidings.

The third project, led by CN with investment from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, involves 4·2 km of double tracking.

‘It's critical that we provide for the smooth movement of people and goods to foster economic growth and take advantage of the trade opportunities offered by Canada's Asia-Pacific Gateway’, said Terry Beech
Member of Parliament for Burnaby North- Seymour. ‘These projects will increase capacity, reduce logistics costs and improve access for local industries.’
