Green Cargo has developed 25 m long wagons to accommodate the increase in the length of standard turnouts from 16 to 24 m. This will support Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems’ aim of increasing rail’s share of its track component delivery activities to 20% this year and more in the future.

Canadian Pacific has ordered 41 purpose-built 40 ft containers each housing two large generators capable of powering up to 17 refrigerated ocean-going containers on services from the ports of Vancouver and Montréal.

Ukrainian Railways has ordered wagon wheels from Interpipe for 60m hryvna and from Huta Bankowa for 13·7m hryvna.

P&O Ferrymasters and Polish logistics company Erontrans have launched an integrated ferry and rail service linking the UK, Rotterdam Europoort and the CLIP Group intermodal terminal near Poznań in Poland. Europoort-based LTE Netherlands acts as the rail carrier for the service, which runs four times per week in each direction with transit times of four days to/from the UK and two days from Benelux. Each train has a capacity of 36 lorry trailers.

Russian Post and Transmashholding have signed an agreement to co-operate in the development of baggage and mail vans for domestic and China – Europe transit routes. It is envisaged that around 300 vehicles could be delivered 2017-19, including 75 for the launch of a direct Beijing – Moscow – Berlin parcels service.

Ukrainian Railways has delivered 75 000 tonnes of South African coal from Ukrainian ports to power stations as part of the build-up of stocks for winter. Ukraine has imported coal as a result of the conflict in its eastern mining region.
