Sinara Transport Machines’ Lyudinovo diesel locomotive plant has begun delivering TGM8KM diesel locomotives to the José Martí steel plant in Cuba. The steelworks currently uses TGM4 locos supplied from the same Russian plant more than 30 years ago. STM is also providing staff training.

On May 31 the European Commission signed a €109m grant agreement to support the construction of a second track on a new alignment to increase freight capacity between Divača and the port of Koper in Slovenia. This takes the EU’s total support for the project to €153m.

The Far East Land Bridge subsidiary of RZD Logistics has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Communications & Transportation Association to promote the development of intermodal flows between China and western Europe via ports in the Kaliningrad and Leningrad oblasts. RZD Logistics would manage the formation and operation of intermodal trains between the Chinese border and the port of Bronka in St Petersburg, while also managing transhipment of containers at Kaliningrad.

Russian potassium producer Uralkali has ordered 500 Type 19-9835-01 mineral fertiliser hopper wagons to be delivered by United Wagon Co’s Tikhvin plant in 2019.

DB Cargo UK Chief Executive Hans-Georg Werner has been appointed Chairman of the Rail Delivery Group’s Freight Board. The board’s strategic priorities for 2018 include ‘ensuring sustainable track access charges’ in infrastructure manager Network Rail’s next five-year control period, and the development of High Speed 2 and strategic freight capacity.

United Wagon Co’s TikhvinChemMash plant is to supply copper smelting company Karabashmed with 50 Type 15-9545 sulphuric acid tank wagons. The 25 tonne axleload will permit a capacity of 77 tonnes and 44 m3, around 10% higher than older designs, enabling the fleet size to be reduced.
