Sinara Transport Machines’ Lyudinovo Diesel Locomotive Plant is to supply steelmaker Evraz with six TEM14 heavy-duty shunting locomotives. They have a pair of engines, and can shunt trains of up to 6 000 tonnes.

Etihad Rail has signed an agreement for the future transport of steel produced by Al Ghurair Iron & Steel from Industrial City of Abu Dhabi to Khalifa Port and Jebel Ali for export.

Ukraine’s Ukrzaliznytsia has begun a two-stage process of raising freight tariffs for the first time in two years. It expects this to increase revenue by 2bn hryvnia this year and 10bn hryvnia next year, with the proceeds to be used for infrastructure renewals and electrification. ‘The last large-scale modernisation of the railway infrastructure was carried out in 2011-12’, said Acting Chairman Oleksandr Kamyshin. ‘In the following years, works were almost stopped. We will reverse this trend. Everyone should benefit from increased investment in infrastructure upgrades. The railway will receive modernised tracks, and shippers and passengers high-quality and fast transport.’

The European Commission has approved plans by Slovenian national railway Slovenske Železnice and Czech company EP Logistics International to create a joint venture to take over SŽ’s freight division SŽ-Tovorni Promet and logistics business Fersped.

Railcare T has been certified to operate trains in Norway, meaning it will no longer need to subcontract shunting in Narvik as part of its contract to operate ore trains for Kaunis Iron. ‘Being able to carry out transport and shunting in Norway under our own auspices is an important piece of the puzzle in the work of further developing, optimising, and quality assuring our assignment with ore transport for Kaunis Iron’, said Railcare Group CEO Daniel Öholm.

Roseksimbank and local partner bank Trade & Development Bank are to finance a 900m roubles order for Altayvagon and the Mongolian Institute of Railway Drawings & Projects to deliver 300 Type 12-2153-01 open wagons to Mongolia by the end of the year. The Russian Agency for Export Credit & Investment Insurance is providing insurance.
