Norwegian private freight operator Onrail has agreed a long-term full-service lease with European Loc Pool covering two winterised Stadler EuroDual six-axle electro-diesel locomotives rated at 6 MW in electric mode and 2·8 MW using the Caterpillar C175 engine. They will be deployed from the end of 2022 on the 1 217 km partially-electrified route between Fauske near Bodø and Oslo, where Onrail is targeting the growing market for transporting fish.

All ÖBB Rail Cargo Group TransFER services in the Czech Republic are now powered by certified ‘green’ traction current. This follows Austria in 2018 and Germany earlier this year, with more countries to follow.

Eurotunnel and TIP Trailer Services now offer lorry tractor unit and semi-trailer maintenance services at Le Truck Village in its French terminal, where a workshop vehicle with impact wrenches, compressors, battery chargers, workbenches and heat guns is present every day. ‘These new services for our freight customers demonstrate our desire to increase our customer satisfaction, while allowing them to cross the Channel with their goods as securely as possible’, said Christian Dufermont, Freight Commercial Director at the Channel Tunnel operator.

Having taken delivery of the first locomotives for hauling coal from the new Carmichael mine in Australia, Bowen Rail Co is recruiting full-time employees for admin, finance, HR, safety, engineering, maintenance, supervisory and other roles across its rail operations and infrastructure divisions. ‘These 20 new roles are part of the first phase of recruitment that will see more than 50 new employees for Bowen Rail Co over the coming months’, said General Manager Brendan Lane on October 27. ‘We are working to create pathways for Queenslanders to enter the rail sector through innovative upskilling programmes. The 2021 edition of the Regulation concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail is now available on OTIF’s website in Russian. Already published in OTIF’s working languages of French, German and English, it contains more than 1 000 pages of provisions applicable to the cross-border transport of dangerous goods by rail between the 45 RID contracting states in Europe, Asia and North Africa.

Ronald Batory is a former FRA administrator; Rodney Case spent 30 years in leadership positions in the rail freight sector, including 17 years with Canadian Pacific; Andrew Fox was Managing Director of Anacostia Rail Holdings until 2018, and held a variety of management positions during a 23-year career with Southern Pacific; Dean Wise advises several companies in the transport and infrastructure sectors and is a former Vice-President of BNSF. ‘We are privileged to have this talented group of railroad executives assist us in strategic thinking about rail safety, revenue growth and technology’, said ARH Chairman Peter Gilbertson. ’They have diverse backgrounds and reputations as thought leaders.’
