Orange Rail Full Yard (CNW Group, Alpenglow Rail)

Alpenglow Rail and Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure have acquired Orange Rail Inc from LJA Investments. Orange Rail has recently built a rail terminal in Orange, Texas, with phase one including a loop capable of handling 120 wagon trains, sidings for 600 wagons and access to Union Pacific and BNSF lines. This will become part of Alpenglow’s USA Rail Terminals, which owns sites in Port Arthur, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. ‘At USA Rail we serve many of the same customers that will benefit from the acquisition of Orange Rail’, said Alpenglow CEO Rich Montgomery. ‘This provides excellent optionality for our customer base to execute a single agreement with USA Rail while handling their rail needs across multiple terminals and markets.’

Nencki has been awarded a SFr664 660 contract to provide freight wagons for the metre gauge Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren.

Baytown Intermodal Center

Industrial property investor Reich Brothers has purchased the former DHL Intermodal Campus in the Cedar Port Industrial Park at Baytown, Texas. It plans to make ‘significant’ investments in the site, which has links to BNSF and Union Pacific lines, and a capacity of 350 wagons.

With effect from January 10 the North Sea-Baltic Rail Freight Corridor has been extended to Medyka in Poland and the ports of Gent and Zeebrugge in Belgium, with a connecting route to the Dutch port of Terneuzen. The RFC NS-B now comprises 5 253 km of principal lines, 2 552 km of diversionary lines, 891 km of connecting lines, 257 terminals and 14 seaports.

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has launched the TransFER Linz – Scandinavia – Wels wagonload freight service from Linz via Rheinkamp near Duisburg to Malmö in Sweden. It runs combined with the Linz –Duisburg – Wels service which now runs six times a week; there are two services a week from Rheinkamp to Malmö.

ADIF is to call tenders for construction of a 2·5 km freight link to the port of Sevilla, with a budget of €19∙8m of which €11∙5m will come from the EU’s Regional Development Fund.
