SPAIN: Infrastructure manager ADIF has awarded a joint venture of Alstom and Bombardier an €87⋅9m contract to supply and maintain the first ETCS Level 2 signalling on the Barcelona suburban network, covering the 56 km between L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Mataró.
The works component of the contract is valued at €54m and is due for completion within 21 months. It includes the design and installation of electronic interlockings, train protection and power supply systems as well as fixed and mobile telecommunications including GSM-R.
Alstom and Bombardier will also maintain the new equipment for a period of 20 years. This component of the contract is worth €34m.
ADIF says that resignalling the core of the Barcelona suburban network with ETCS will enable capacity to increased, while improving operational reliability.
