Repairs of Chambeshi Railway Bridge to start

ZAMBIA: A four-month project to repair the Chambeshi Railway Bridge on the Tanzania – Zambia Railway is to begin in March, after Jianngsu Gold Civil Construction Co signed a US$1·6m contract for the works.

Freight services are expected to restart in July, along with cross-border passenger trains which were suspended in May 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

TAZARA said the tendering process for the repair works had been ‘protracted’, because Zambia’s Ministry of Legal Affairs and Ministry of Finance each needed to vet the process and approve the contract.
