CANADA: Prime contractor TransitNEXT has selected Siemens Mobility to supply signalling and train control systems for Ottawa’s Trillium Line South Extension project.

The project scope includes updating the signalling on the existing suburban line, which is operated by diesel multiple-units, and installing automated train protection to ensure safe train movements and optimise operations to support the higher ridership expected when the extension opens in 2022.

The extension will run from Greenboro to Limebank Road in Riverside South, with a branch to Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, adding a total of 16 track-km and eight stations.

‘The Trillium extension will provide greater access to Ottawa South and to Ottawa’s travellers, including the more than five million passengers that utilise the airport per year’, said Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, CEO of Siemens Mobility in Canada when the contract was announced on December 10.
