IAF: Among the products being launched by small plant specialist Robel at the IAF trade show in Münster on May 30 is a remote monitoring system for fishplates.

The tool is intended to remove the need for manual inspection of temporary track repairs. Sensors mounted either side of the rail joint monitor both lateral movement and rail deflection; if uneven movement between the two sensors is detected, an alert can automatically be sent by SMS or email to inform maintenance staff.

Having launched the tool at IAF, Robel is seeking a sponsor for field trials. These are likely to take place in the UK on Network Rail infrastructure under the Digital Railway programme.
