GERMANY: VDEI’s Academy for Railway Systems held a conference on geo-surveying in Nürnberg on September 28.

Entitled ‘Geodesy: a partnership for railway infrastructure’, the conference attracted speakers from a number of universities, research institutions and rail suppliers, who addressed questions surrounding the accurate recording of geospatial data, how this data should best be stored, transferred and analysed, and how changes to assets can be tracked over time.

Among the specific presentations was a paper on developments in contactless inventories of infrastructure assets, given by Dipl-Ing Marco Drammers from the Technical University of Dresden, whilst Dipl-Ing Hans Jacoby of DB Netz updated delegates on the infrastructure manager’s use of automated geospatial surveying techniques.
