Australia: The first stage of TasRail's A$11m Advance Network Train Control System rollout has been completed on the Melba line. ANCS is supplied by Siemens, with radio telecoms from Tait Communications and project support from Australasian Railway Consultancy Services.

Canada: Metrolinx has awarded contracts for a C$366m modernisation of signalling controlling 40 track-km on Toronto's 6·4 route-km Union Station Rail Corridor to Alstom (signalling), Hatch Mott McDonald (consultancy) and Plan Group (electrical enabling).

Denmark: COWI, COBE and Dissing+Weitling are to design and build Køge North station near København by 2018, with a 225 m pedestrian bridge and park-and-ride facility.

Ethiopia: Yap Merkezi has awarded ABB a US$16m contract to supply substations and power supply equipment for the 394 km Awash - Weldiya project.

France: Keymile is to supply and support the communications network for the Le Mans - Rennes high speed line which is scheduled for completion in 2017.

India: Japanese firm Sojitz Corp and partner Larsen & Toubro has won a ¥50bn contract to supply 25 kV 50 Hz electrification for the 915 km Rewari - Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (RG 11.14 p49); a Japanese loan requires the uses of Japanese technologies, which will account for around 40% of the order.

Malaysia: Polish firm Track Tec is to supply expansion joints to Prasarana for the RapidKL network.

Mexico: Ferromex has awarded RailComm a contract to supply automation equipment for a yard in Torreón.

Poland: PKP SA has awarded Aldesa a 137m złoty contract to modernise Gliwice station.

The city of Olsztyn has awarded the final 24m złoty civil works contract for its tram network to Balzola, which will build an 800 m section.

Romania: CFR has awarded Alstom and Alcatel Lucent a 498m leu contract to supply ETCS Level 2 and GSM-R for the upgrading of the Simeria - Sighioara route for 160 km/h operation. Alstom values its share of the contract at €100m, including the provision of a Coradia Polyvalent electro-diesel multiple-unit for testing.

Singapore: Hitachi is to supply CBTC and a further two-car trainset for the Sentosa Express monorail.

Spain: Adif has awarded a 55: 45 joint venture of Thales and Siemens Rail Automation a €512m contract to supply and maintain for 20 years automatic train protection, control, telecoms and ETCS Level 2 systems for the 331 km Medina del Campo - Ourense high speed line and associated conventional routes.

Sweden: Trafikverket has awarded Peab a SKr229m contract to double the 5·5 km Hemfosa - Tungelsta section of the Nynäsbanan and provide a new station building at Tungelsta by 2017.

UK: Network Rail has awarded Costain and Morgan Sindall the main civil works and 156 track-km electrification contracts for the Edinburgh - Glasgow Improvement Programme. The alliancing contracts have a total value of £250m, and follow from earlier contracts covering detailed design.

Network Rail has awarded AM-UAS, Cyberhawk Innovations, Resource Group and Richard Allitt Associates framework contracts for the use of unmanned aircraft systems for infrastructure inspections and surveys.

USA: RailComm has won contracts to provide turnout remote control system for a hump yard in North Carolina and a Port of Los Angeles terminal, and to replace TriMet's CTC dispatch system at 10 locations in Portland.
