AUSTRIA: ÖBB-Infrastruktur launched a €26·9m programme to modernise three stations on the Pyhrnstrecke in Oberösterreich with a groundbreaking ceremony at Neuhofen an der Krems on June 7.
Expected to take around 18 months at a cost of €9·3m, the work at Neuhofen will see the realignment of both main lines to permit the construction of a new island platform with a canopy andwaiting shelter. The existing station building will be refurbished and its technical systems renewed, while a modern passenger information system is to be installed. Related work will see the renewal of the overhead line equipment and telecommunications, along with new cable routes. Blockades are scheduled for Easter and summer 2018 to commission install the new track layout, ahead of full commissioning in the autumn.
A new subway will provide a safer grade-separated access to the island platform, while the neighbouring bridge carrying the railway over the Jagerbachl stream will also be renewed. ÖBB is currently in discussion with the municipality about the construction of park-and-ride facilities once the station works have been completed.
The other two stations to be modernised as part of the programme are Kematen an der Krems and Rohr-Bad Hall. According to Andreas Niedermair from ÖBB-Infrastruktur’s Region Nord ‘we are investing in a series of stations in Oberösterreich to make them modern and comfortable. Our goal is to provide passengers with simple and convenient access to the trains.’
