MANKIEWICZ: A wide range of coatings for rail vehicles will be presented by Mankiewicz at InnoTrans 2016, including water-dilutable and low-VOC high-solid paints.

'Our railway paint systems comply with the increasing demands on surface quality', reports Thorben Bahrenburg, Business Development Manager Rail. 'They are extremely durable and resistant to chemical and mechanical stress and weather influences.' Cost reduction is a core objective, and the paints are designed for easy repair, quick drying and low film thicknesses.

The Alexit interior coating is a two-component polyurethane-based product with dirt-repellent properties for easier graffiti removal without surface damage, and antimicrobial properties can be added.

Exterior paints must focus on withstanding high mechanical stress and climatic influences, with resistance against UV radiation and chemicals.

Bogies and wheelsets require a particularly high mechanical resistance. One-layer paints can indicate irreversibly if the brake temperature limit at the wheelset is exceeded, while quick-drying two-layer paints are available for maximum protection against chipping.
