INNOTRANS: French startup Tallano Technologie has designed a braking system for trains which it says reduces ultrafine particle emissions by 90%. In the latest InnoTrans podcast, CEO Christophe Rocca-Serra explains how it works.

‘Braking releases ultrafine metal particles the size of a virus’, says Rocca-Serra. ‘he smaller these particles, the more dangerous they are, because they penetrate human tissue.

‘We modify the brake shoes and vacuum the particles directly there at source. At the same time we measure the temperature and pressure of the brake shoes and can estimate when they need replacing.’
