Letter to the Editor

Sir - I would like to provide some details of the Kerman - Zahedan project in response to the letter from Dr John Stubbs (RG 10.05 p603).

Due to the low demand for passenger transport there is one train daily on the Kerman - Bam route. As far as freight traffic is concerned, following the damage to the city caused by the 2003 earthquake, Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran is transporting materials at the request of the Bam Reconstruction Headquarters.

Construction of infrastructure on the Bam - Zahedan railway is underway, and it is going to be operational during the next two years. The rail link with Pakistan, connecting Europe with eastern Asia through Iran, will considerably increase the international business of RAI.
