MAURITIUS: India’s L&T Construction has been awarded a contract to build Phase 2A of the Mauritius Metro Express.

This will extend the light rail line by 3·4 km from Rose Hill Central to Quatre Bornes Central Station and Trianon, serving the densely populated areas of Ebene Cybercity and the University of Mauritius.

The contract covers the construction of three stops, viaducts and bridges, ballastless, embedded and grass track, the DC traction power supply, ticketing, passenger information and signalling systems integrated with road traffic.

L&T built the 13 km first phase of the light rail network from between Victoria in Port Louis and Rosehill, which was inaugurated in October 2019 with revenue services starting in January 2020.

It is envisaged that the line will eventually run for 26 km from Immigration Square in Port Louis to Curepipe.
