GREECE: Operator STASY has awarded CAF a contract to refurbish 14 trainsets dating from 1983-85 which are in service on Athens metro Line 1.

The 34-month project to extend the life of the five-car MAN/Siemens trainsets for a further 25 years has a €70m budget and is the first major contract which CAF has won in Greece.

CAF Power & Automation will replace the traction equipment, fit more efficient motors and update braking, door and passenger information systems.

The interiors will be refurbished, with accessibility works including the addition of areas for persons with reduced mobility.
