UK: Transport for London has awarded Balfour Beatty a second contract under the London Underground High Voltage Power framework.

The £43m contract announced on October 17 covers design, supply and installation of assets at the Hatton Cross and Hounslow substations including transformer rectifiers, high and low voltage switchboards, DC switchboards and auxiliary transformers, and associated cable routes.

This will support the increase in traction power needed for the introduction of the new Piccadilly Line trains which are currently being built by Siemens Mobility, and support an increase in capacity on the route.

Work is to commence by the end of the year for completion in 2026. At the peak Balfour Beatty will employ approximately 40 people on the project, including apprentices and graduates as part of its commitment to The 5% Club of companies providing training opportunities.
