ITALY: A consortium of Impregilo, Astaldi, Ansaldo STS, AnsaldoBreda, Sirti and ATM has been selected for a turnkey contract to build and operate Milano metro Line 4.

Line 4 will be 15·2 km long with 21 stations, connecting Linate airport to San Cristoforo with interchanges to Line 1 at San Babila, Line 3 at Crocetta and Line 2 at Sant’Ambrogio.

Ansaldo STS values its share of the contract at around €255m; this includes CBTC signalling and train control, power supplies, ticketing, wayside and onboard communications, Scada and platform screen doors.

The project is expected to cost €1·7bn, funded by national and local government (€1·2bn) and private finance (€512m). The consortium expects to complete Line 4 in 2015, when the World Expo will take place in Milano.
