UK: A ceremony on February 5 marked the completion of a £13·8m programme to increase capacity at Midland Metro’s rolling stock maintenance depot in Wednesbury.

The second phase of the programme includes a 42 m extension to the existing maintenance shed, new office and staff space and new storage facilities. The first phase had been completed in September 2013, comprising a shed for commissioning the new fleet of CAF Urbos 3 trams as well as additional stabling facilities.

The depot expansion was carried out by Morgan Sindall. It forms part of a £128m expansion of the tram route between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. A 1·4 km extension from Snow Hill to New Street is due to open by the end of 2015.
