SPAIN: Catalunya regional operator FGC is to undertake a €33m refurbishment of its 22 four-car Class 112 EMUs this year. Built in 1996, the Class 112 fleet is deployed on FGC’s 1 435 mm gauge Vallès commuter network in Barcelona. FGC says that the programme will include technical upgrades to improve reliability, as well as major internal refurbishment to match the ambience and facilities of the new Class 115 fleet on order from Stadler. The Class 112s are to receive passenger information displays as well as LED lighting.

Faiveley has been awarded the first contract under the Class 112 programme, worth €820 605 and covering the refurbishment of passenger doors. Work is due to begin in May, with further stages of the programme including the installation of electrically-actuated cab doors.
